We’re less than a week away from NH Gives! We wanted to share why Kate Freeland, former Hand to Heart client and current member of the Board of Directors will be supporting Hand to Heart during the event.
“In 2018 I was blindsided by a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. Through the two years of treatment and then recovery from a bone marrow transplant, I was ill and isolated. Regular visits from a Hand to Heart massage therapist truly kept me from the abyss. The massage always eased pain and nausea, but these visits were so much more than massage. A visitor in my home when I could not leave it, honest conversations about illness and mortality with someone experienced and objective around both, the peaceful silence when I did not have the energy to speak, all brought more comfort and ease than I can say.
When I recovered I knew I had to give back, and I have. In 2021 I joined the Board of Directors for Hand to Heart, helping ensure the program continues to provide compassionate touch – and so much more – to people with cancer and their caregivers. Giving my time and energy is meaningful, but I am very aware that the essential work of Hand to Heart comes at substantial financial cost. To continue to provide services, at home, free of charge, Hand to Heart relies on fundraising. I will give during the upcoming NH Gives event, my donation a thank you for what this unique non-profit has provided me, and an investment for the future of all who will be touched by cancer.”
We hope you’ll consider joining Kate in supporting our clients and program next week.
